King’s Town Bank’s Green Action - Protect the Earth Every Day
On April 22 every year, the world celebrates “Earth Day” and advocates the importance of environmental protection advocacy in all different ways, and King’s Town Bank is no exception. The Bank launched a series of creative Earth Day activities, such as turning off the lights of advertising signs for 3 consecutive days at its operating sites, and inviting neighboring shops to participate and hold the barter activity, “Vegan Day”, digital transaction campaign, and other activities. Through these, King’s Town Bank aims to encourage its employees, clients, and the local residents to engage in green action through daily life and business activities.
This year is the 52nd year of Earth Day. And it’s theme in 2022 is “Invest In Our Planet”, to promote the spirit of “the Earth is everyone’s responsibility”, and advocate the idea that all parties, including the individuals, corporates, and the government agencies, should act more boldly, innovate in a wider range of fields, and implement the principle of fairness in order to solve the problem of climate change. King’s Town Bank has been a long-time supporter of Earth Day. This year, it not only extended the light-off hours of advertising signs but also invited shops in the community of its branches to reduce energy consumption together. Furthermore, King’s Town Bank is aware of the need for innovative thinking to realize environmental sustainability and implement green action in daily life. Thus, the bank organized several internal activities including the “Barter Activity” and “Vegan Day” to advocate the spirit of “Don’t waste, spend less” and “Eat less meat, save the earth” and, furthermore, all participating employees had a chance to win energy-saving prizes designed exclusively by Taiwan's first B Corp - DOMI Earth, and charity leopard cat face masks made by Leopard Cat Association of Taiwan. The Bank also encouraged its employees to donate the remaining items from the barter activity to the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families in Tainan. King’s Town Bank aims to establish an E+S+G corporate sustainability development business model through connecting social enterprises, nature conservation associations, and social welfare organizations.
For this year’s theme - “Invest in Our Planet”, King’s Town Bank exerts its core competency in finance and actively promotes green financing and digital services to realize value co-creation and low carbon transition. In terms of green financing, King’s Town Bank supports the development of wind power, solar energy, and other renewable energy. Up to the end of last year, the bank’s cumulative installed capacity involved in major projects reached 187 MW, translating to approximately 250,000 metric tons of carbon reduction per year, or the amount of carbon absorbed by more than 1709 Tainan parks per year. In terms of digital services, King’s Town Bank has launched a series of new services. It launched its goyee digital bank account service in 2020 to offer online account opening and transaction services to the public and successfully reduced carbon footprints. Further, in 2021, the bank introduced the online account opening platform for clients at the branch office counters, which largely decreased paper consumption for business use. Moreover, the reduction of paper bank statements has also been a goal for King’s Town Bank. In 2020, the bank initiated the project - “Power to Change” jointly with DOMI Earth. In the project, when a client opts for an e-statement, King’s Town Bank will donate a sum of money to energy-poverty families to install energy-efficient lighting, meaning that for every 100 e-statements, an energy-poverty family can save up to 1,200 kWh of energy every year.
To encourage more people to take part in carbon emission reduction, King’s Town Bank offers 6 free interbank withdrawals and transfers for new goyee account users and a maximum of 60% off on the handling fee for online fund purchases. King’s Town Bank invites everyone to instill green action in their everyday life, making every day Earth Day, and every day a good day.
